It doesn't work like that now but it would be something to ask for. Ideally we would be paid to take care of populations and so doing a better and more streamlined job would be a natural direction to move.Janice Boughtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02321947802871503562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350181109033523476.post-62878744200113061132016-09-15T08:49:33.817-07:002016-09-15T08:49:33.817-07:00While I agree on not billing separately for the PO...While I agree on not billing separately for the POC ultrasound, is it possible to upcode the encounter because of the extra time/effort spent and note in the patient chart? Why not look into the body for valuable information when searching for a diagnose? I can recommend watching the podcasts at ultrasoundpodcast.com and join the virtual fellowship at ultrasoundleadershipacademy.com. Awesome program, I have been a virtual fellow since september of last year. Start ultrasounding, it will be a gamechanger and one of the most useful skills you'll learn as a doctor. I would be interested in the mini-fellowship if you can direct me to more details.

Also, are you using a GE Vscan portable? It was inspiring and fun and really instructive. I hear that UCSF does good courses, I also went to Yale's ER ultrasound course in Puerto Rico and this thing called "Castlefest" which the guys who do the online Ultrasound Podcast put together in Kentucky every year. I have done most of my training in ER courses because they have been doing ultrasound education longer than internists have and so they really know how to teach it. My mini-fellowship was through UC Irvine and if you live near there, they can be really flexible. If you want more information on that, let me know.Janice Boughtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02321947802871503562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350181109033523476.post-91693566216168047002014-05-20T22:49:17.361-07:002014-05-20T22:49:17.361-07:00I'm very interested in doing exactly what you&...I'm very interested in doing exactly what you've done. I want to incorporate this into my physical exam without necessarily turning it into a billing program. Any recommendations on which CME to start with? What ultrasounds did you choose?

I am a traditional internist and would be using this both in outpatient and inpatient setting.Cheelerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15391360023992991827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350181109033523476.post-89166342460092145642014-04-16T22:58:07.786-07:002014-04-16T22:58:07.786-07:00Good question. I spent $5000 on the tuition for a one month mini-fellowship but the real costs were much higher considering that I took a month off work and had to cover food, lodging and travel in a rather expensive location. I got a tremendous amount out of my first CME, though, and could have learned all of the rest of what I needed by hanging out in an ER with another doctor who did lots of ultrasound and by doing ultrasounds and reviewing ultrasound resources on youtube. The main reason I got excessively trained is so I could teach it and maybe make the process simpler and cheaper for other doctors. If this is going to become a standard part of what we do, we need to figure out some efficient methods of training each other.Janice Boughtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02321947802871503562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350181109033523476.post-3412708265760584902014-04-16T16:05:41.635-07:002014-04-16T16:05:41.635-07:00How much did your 100+ hours of extra training cos...How much did your 100+ hours of extra training cost you?PGYxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04326999545370162455noreply@blogger.com
